Winter Safety Tips & Resources

We know staying active can be tough as it gets colder and days get shorter. To make your winter outdoor activities a little more merry and bright, we’ve gathered some resources to help you remain safe while you’re out and about this winter.

Safely navigate snow and ice. Take shorter steps and keep your center of gravity over your legs when walking on slippery snow or ice. Find more tips in this winter walking guide and Fairfax County’s Cold Weather Safety page.

Know who clears the snow. The RDOA handles snow removal on all roads and sidewalks in MetroWest. See Fairfax County’s Guide to Snow for public road and sidewalk plowing updates.

Get outside and play. Fresh air and exercise don’t have to be hard work. Embrace the dark by going for a night time walk to check out the neighbor’s holiday decorations, or try playing some walking games.

Get active indoors if the weather outside is frightful. Try out a daily workout challenge with different activities for each day of the week.
