MetroWest is served by multiple Fairfax Connector, CUE (City of Fairfax) and Metrobus routes. The bus will connect you with prime locations such as Tysons, Dunn Loring, Old Town Alexandria and more! All rides on the City of Fairfax CUE are free. The Fairfax Connector and MetroBus both cost $2.25 per trip for most routes which can be purchased with a SmarTrip card or cash. Your trip is free when you use the bus to connect with Metrorail.

Metrobus – Better Bus Initiative

As part of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s (WMATA) Better Bus Initiative, bus routes, schedules, service, and access have been updated to improve your ride. These changes are designed to provide smoother, faster service and make route information easier to understand and use.

Metrobus Improvements at MetroWest

F24 Metrobus 29N, which provides service between Fairfax and Alexandria, is replaced by Metrobus F24
F50 Metrobus 2B, which provides service to Fair Oaks, is replaced by Metrobus F50
F61 Metrobus 1A and 2B, which provide service to Ballston and Fair Oaks, are replaced by Metrobus F61

SmarTrip 101

A SmarTrip card is necessary for anyone who wants to use the Metrorail system or buses in the DC region. You will also need a SmarTrip card to park at any Metro station.

What is a SmarTrip Card?

A SmarTrip card is a reloadable farecard used to pay Metrorail, Metrobus, and regional bus systems in Virginia, Maryland, and DC.

Why buy a SmarTrip Card?

In addition to paying for transit rides, you will need a SmarTrip card to park at any Metro station. SmarTrip users also receive free bus-to-bus and bus-to-rail transfers.

How much is a SmarTrip Card?

A SmarTrip card costs $10 which covers the $2 fee for the card and comes pre-loaded with $8 fare towards your first ride.

Where to buy a SmarTrip Card?

In Person: Purchase a SmarTrip card at any Metrorail station using one of the SmarTrip kiosks.

On Your Phone: Download the SmarTrip App or add SmarTrip to your Apple Wallet or Google Wallet and follow the prompts to purchase a new digital card.

Online: Purchase SmarTrip cards online and WMATA will mail it to you.

At a Store: Select CVS/pharmacy and Giant Food stores in the region that display the SmarTrip® sign.
