The Fairfax Bicycle Master Plan was prepared by the Fairfax County Department of Transportation. Guidance and support for the development of this Plan was also provided by a Bicycle Advisory Committee and several stakeholder groups.
Construction on Northern Virginia’s Interstate 66 expansion and improvement is underway. This project will turn the existing interstate into a multi-modal corridor, allowing for quicker and more reliable traffic flow. The proposed infrastructure changes would incorporate:
• Three regular lanes in each direction
• Two express lanes in each direction
• High-frequency bus service with predictable travel times
• Direct access between the express lanes and new or expanded commuter lots
This will affect the 22-mile stretch of I-66 from I-495/Capital Beltway to Gainesville/University Boulevard.
