Transform 66

Plans for Northern Virginia’s Interstate 66 expansion and improvement are underway.  This project will turn the existing interstate into a multi-modal corridor, allowing for quicker and more reliable traffic flow.  The proposed infrastructure changes would incorporate:

• Three regular lanes in each direction
• Two express lanes in each direction
• High-frequency bus service with predictable travel times
• Direct access between the express lanes and new or expanded commuter lots

Currently, this is is still in the planning and sourcing phase. Construction is slated to begin in 2017.

The area of I-66 this will affect is the 25-mile stretch from U.S. Route 15 in Haymarket to I-495/Capital Beltway.

Metro SafeTrack

“Metro SafeTrack is a yearlong plan to improve safety and reliability on the Metrorail system. ALL commuters should expect heavy delays and crowding at Metro stations, and on all major commuting corridors in Northern Virginia including I-66, I-495, Dulles Toll Road, and I-95. All commuters are urged to telework, rideshare and use alternate transit options described here.”
